Our Story, Mission, and Values
Sound Foundations was established to bridge music education and behaviour mentoring, recognising the positive impact of the arts on student engagement and conduct. Our mission is to empower secondary school students to reach their full potential through bespoke, professional support that respects their individual circumstances. We value respect, inclusivity, and commitment in all our work, fostering environments where young people can thrive academically and personally.

A bit about me
With over 25 years of experience in the music industry, I have worked across a wide range of genres as a performer, session musician, songwriter and producer. Throughout my career, I have performed in a variety of live settings, collaborated with other musicians and developed a strong understanding of both the creative and technical sides of music making.
Alongside my work as a musician, I have worked within education since 2008 as a peripatetic music teacher, classroom music teacher and pastoral professional.
My background includes more than 10 years of experience supporting young people in pastoral and behavioural roles, helping students to build confidence, resilience and self-belief through positive relationships and creative engagement.
I am passionate about making music accessible, inspiring and enjoyable for all learners, whether they are complete beginners, aspiring performers or students looking to develop confidence both in and beyond music.

Rich Woodfield
(Parent)
Mr Chetwynd has been pivotal to both of my children’s success with their music studies. In guiding them both through Level 2 BTEC qualifications, Jack was able to facilitate not only the building of knowledge and skills, but also the gaining of new experiences as musicians through carefully curated events, performance opportunities and visits that demonstrated his eagerness to go the extra mile to ensure students’ success. Coupled with Jack’s warm, professional and motivational approach, this provided an environment where my children felt free to explore and follow their creative instincts, ultimately achieving at the highest level. Jack offered a personalised level of support, put students at ease and instilled the confidence and belief needed for both of my children to continue their creative studies beyond secondary school, studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Birmingham Ormiston Academy respectively. This legacy stands testimony as surely the most compelling evidence for Jack’s ability as an educator, an instructor and inspiration to those wishing to shape their creative future. Thank you, Jack.

Charlie Purchase
(former student)
Mr Chetwynd was a great teacher and mentor during both my GCSE and A level studies. His previous experience in both teaching and the music industry provided insight and different perspectives when it came to approaching exams and coursework etc than my other teachers. Personally, he definitely helped fuel my passion for music which led to me continuing to study further at university, as well as helping with my confidence and playing skills when it came to performing.
